It\u2019s a no-brainer for fans of \u201cThe Boss,\u201d but overall, it\u2019s inspired a mixed critical response that adds up to a more divisive response than expected.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p><em>Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere <\/em>premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last month, <strong>and the reception was striking and intense<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/08\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-review-telluride-1236499618\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Deadline<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>reflected the broad critical buzz when it described the film as the glorious antithesis to your standard clich\u00e9d music biopic, labeling it as \u201cthe real deal, an intelligent, deliberately paced journey into the soul of an artist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of this festival buzz is definitely wearing off, though, with the rapturous initial enthusiasm giving way to a general feeling that this highly-anticipated biopic did not live up to the hype. Strong performances from <strong>Jeremy Allen White <\/strong>aside, there have been many bones to pick, and even a few shots fired by the media.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"jeremy-alan-white-delivers-even-when-the-film-is-failing-to-do-so\">\n<\/h2>\n<p>                        Jeremy Alan White Delivers, Even When The Film Is Failing To Do So<\/p>\n<p>Before we get into audience beef with the flick, there <em>is <\/em>one clear win critics broadly seem to agree on. <strong>Jeremy Allen White is loved worldwide <\/strong>for the simmering pathos of Carmen \u201cCarmy\u201d Berzatto that he portrays on the hit restaurant drama. <em>The Bear<\/em>and the critical consensus seems to be that White gives us the portrayal of Springsteen that we were actually looking for.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>key area of \u200b\u200bpraise is that White captures the restlessness of Springsteen without impersonation<\/strong>his performance altogether more authentic than your typical music biopic cosplay. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-reviews\/deliver-me-from-nowhere-review-bruce-springsteen-biopic-1235450363\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rolling Stone <\/em><\/a>calls White\u2019s portrayal \u201cmoody and mercurial,\u201d while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2025-10-23\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-review-jeremy-allen-white-strong-nebraska\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>LA Times<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>says he grounds the introspective nature of the project and \u201coffers a character study as biopic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White gives what <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/oct\/23\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-review-brooding-earnest-portrait-of-the-boss-crisis-years\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a> <\/em>describes as a \u201ccommitted performance\u201d that nails the defines the working-class toughness of Springsteen\u2019s celebrated persona, though more importantly, also shines a less-seen torch on Springsteen\u2019s raw vulnerabilities and personal unravelings, providing an anchor to the introspective, emotionally bruising themes that the film explores.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s <strong>no obvious Springsteen impersonation here<\/strong>critics say. No exaggerated growl or preening swagger. Instead, White channels something more introspective as he internalizes the exhaustion of the infamous <em>Nebraska <\/em>recording sessions. He mumbles into tape recorders, chain-smokes through the rewrites, and looks like a man who can\u2019t tell if these songs are saving or killing him.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"deliver-me-from-mild-disappointment\">\n<\/h2>\n<p>                        Deliver Me From Mild Disappointment<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, though, this optimism isn\u2019t matched across the board with <em>Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/em>. The film is holding onto its fresh status <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/springsteen_deliver_me_from_nowhere\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rotten Tomatoes<\/em><\/a>although it has a middling critical score of 61% plus a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/movie\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Metacritic<\/a> <\/em>average of 60\/100 (with reviews generally leaning in a favorable to mixed-negative direction, it should be pointed out).<\/p>\n<p>The contention isn\u2019t necessarily over director Cooper\u2019s decision to focus entirely on the tortured <em>Nebraska<\/em> sessions (a gutsy and inspired idea, on paper). Instead, it\u2019s the execution that\u2019s caused a few. The lack of any \u201cBorn to Run\u201d victory pencil or <strong>E Street Band<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>camaraderie aside, critics claim Cooper bites off a lot with his narrative choices, perhaps a little more than he could chew.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/oct\/23\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-review-brooding-earnest-portrait-of-the-boss-crisis-years\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Guardian<\/em><\/a>  unflatteringly describes it as an \u201cawkward biopic, stranded between rock mythology and pop-psych melodrama.\u201d Meanwhile, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/entertainment\/article\/springsteen-deliver-me-review-21104950.php\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>San Francisco Chronicle <\/em><\/a>describes it as \u201cendless mope, occasionally interrupted by artistic breakthroughs.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/23\/movies\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-review.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>argues its admirable ambitions are undermined by \u201csome unfortunate self-conscious artistic flourishes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even harsher was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.looper.com\/2004438\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-movie-review\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Looper<\/em><\/a>arguing that the film failed to rise above the biopic cliches despite everything. \u201cEvery scene has amateurish dialogue riddled with groan-worthy clich\u00e9s that do nothing to further the development of any of its characters.\u201d UPI claims its focused scope actually renders its flaws more evident, \u201cexacerbates all the cliches from other music biopics that attempt to cover their subjects\u2019 entire lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"so-what-about-the-springsteen-stans\">\n<\/h2>\n<p>                        So What About The Springsteen Stans?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the opinions of Springsteen stans that might prove to matter the most, but there\u2019s some tension here too. Insider movie blog <em>World of Reel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldofreel.com\/blog\/2025\/10\/22\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere-eyes-10m-weekend-budget-was-55m\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">World of Reel<\/a> <\/em>notes the cooling off from critics, while also expressing their own misgivings, even though the writer describes the book by <strong>Warren Zanes <\/strong>that inspired the film as an \u201cincredible book that tries to dig deep into the mind of Springsteen.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll admit it, huge Springsteen fan here. I own the entire discography, hundreds of bootleg recordings, lost count of the number of times I\u2019ve seen him live, but this film \u2014 it\u2019s just okay. Semi-wasted potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, veteran music industry insider Bob Lefsetz chose not to mince his words:<\/strong> \u201cWe had to endure eighteen months of hype for this?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/2025\/10\/24\/the-springsteen-flick\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">he steamed in his razor-sharp style<\/a>arguing the post-festival hype was undeserved. \u201cBut even worse is the hype.
