That was a bit disappointing given the phone isn\u2019t due to be released until the end of 2020, but it turns out at least<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>some<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>people already have their hands on one.<\/p>\n<p>A YouTube video captured by Israel Rodriguez\u00a0(via <em>The Verge<\/em>), shows someone \u2013 presumably a Microsoft employee or a developer with early access \u2013 using the Surface Duo on the Vancouver SkyTrain. Though it looks nearly identical to what Microsoft showed off in October, this prototype appears to sport a front-facing flash.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Surface Duo\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8abPd2Poda0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Minor hardware changes aside, it\u2019s neat to see the Duo\u2019s software in action. There appear to be a few hangups and choppy frames, but we can likely chalk that up to unfinished software. Unfortunately, we didn\u2019t get a look<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the company released an emulator that allowed developers to try Microsoft\u2019s dual-screen Android tweaks, and the UI seems well thought out so far.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In context \u2013 this feels even more magical. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8yLLoioE1K\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/8yLLoioE1K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jonas Daehnert (@PhoneDesigner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhoneDesigner\/status\/1220097309528162310?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">January 22, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Because the Surface Duo uses two separate displays rather than a single bendable one, the emphasis is strictly on multi-tasking and a seamless transition between screens.<\/p>\n<p>Without any of the durability concerns of typical folding phones, the Surface Duo has the potential to be one of the best smartphones for getting stuff done.
