The 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards were handed out Saturday in recognition of the best in indie films from 2019.<\/p>\n

Willem Dafoe won the first award, Best Supporting Male, for his role in \u201cThe Lighthouse.\u201d \u201cUncut Gems\u201d won Best Editing, while the Best Documentary award went to \u201cAmerican Factory.\u201d Best Cinematography went to Jarin Blaschke for \u201cThe Lighthouse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelly Reichardt was awarded The Bonnie Award, which recognizes a mid-career female director with a $50,000 unrestricted grant. The John Cassavetes Award, given to the best feature made for under $500,000, was given to \u201cGive Me Liberty.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cParasite\u201d won Best International Film. Zhao Shuzhen won Best Supporting Female for her role in \u201cThe Farewell.\u201d \u201cMarriage Story\u201d won Best Screenplay. Adam Sandler won Best Male Lead for his performance in \u201cUncut Gems\u201d and Ren\u00e9e Zellweger received the Best Female Lead for her role in \u201cJudy.\u201d<\/p>\n

And lastly, Lulu Wang\u2019s \u201cThe Farewell\u201d won the top honor of the night, Best Feature.<\/p>\n
