Vaunted game studio CD Projekt Red (CDPR) today revealed it would be delaying it\u2019s much-anticipated RPG,\u00a0Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>, from this coming April to September 17.<\/p>\n

This is far from the only game to be delayed so far this year. It\u2019s becoming something of an epidemic. The\u00a0Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/em> was delayed from March to April, and the\u00a0Avengers\u00a0<\/em>game has moved from May to September. But the\u00a0Cyberpunk<\/em> delay is the longest yet. CDPR says in its announcement on Twitter<\/a> that, while the game is playable, it needs fixes, polish, and playtesting. It called the time bought by this delay \u201cthe precious months we need to make the game perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong. I\u2019m sad that it\u2019ll be yet awhile longer before I get my hands on CDPR\u2019s next adventure, which I\u2019ve been awaiting for seven years now.<\/p>\n

But the early spring release season is especially crowded right now. At the moment, we\u2019re looking at\u00a0Ori & the Will of the Wisps<\/em>,\u00a0Animal Crossing: New Horizon<\/em>,\u00a0Doom Eternal<\/em>,\u00a0Persona 5 Royal<\/em>,\u00a0Resident Evil 3 Remake<\/em>, and the first episode of\u00a0Final Fantasy VII Remake\u00a0<\/em>all within the span of a month (March 11-April 10). I game as much as a human could reasonably be able to, and even I doubt I\u2019ll be able to get all the time I want with each game before the next one comes out. That\u2019s not even accounting for the fact that\u00a0Half-Life: Alyx\u00a0<\/em>is supposed to come out at some point in the middle of all that.<\/p>\n

In September, on the other hand, the only major release we know of so far is the\u00a0Avengers\u00a0<\/em>game, which is due to come out on September 4. Two weeks with it before\u00a0Cyberpunk<\/em>? That\u2019s a timeframe I can actually work with.<\/p>\n
