Get ready for the next generation of students at Bayside High.<\/p>\n
The team behind the upcoming Saved by the Bell <\/em>reboot has cast Josie Totah, an actress known for her work on Glee<\/em> and the Mindy Kaling-created show Champions<\/em>, as its star, according to\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0NBC News. The revived series will premiere this summer on NBC\u2019s streaming service,\u00a0Peacock.<\/p>\n Totah will play Lexi, a Bayside cheerleader who is \u201cboth admired and feared by her fellow students.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more: <\/strong>Brad Pitt calls himself ‘trash mag fodder’ while talking paparazzi<\/strong><\/p>\n The actress, whose work includes the Disney Channel show Jessie <\/em>and the Netflix comedy No Good Nick<\/em>, started her career in male roles before she came out as transgender in a 2018 essay for\u00a0Time<\/em>\u00a0magazine.<\/p>\n Her castmates include Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, from the popular earlier version of the series, who will return as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In October, Tiffani Thiessen told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em>\u00a0that both she and co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played leads Kelly Kapowski and Zack Morris in the original Saved by the Bell<\/em>, were unaware of the reboot until they saw it in the news. She said cameos are unlikely, because both are working on other projects.<\/p>\n \u201cLiterally, Mark-Paul and I were like, \u2018Oh, wow! I didn\u2019t know that was happening,\u2019\u201d Thiessen said.<\/p>\n Still, Gosselaar\u2019s character will be key to the reboot\u2019s plot: \u201cWhen California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state \u2014 including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
