Terry Gilliam\u2019s mind is on the #MeToo movement, his self-identification as a \u201cmelanin-light male\u201d\u2026 and says he has had enough of white males \u201cbeing blamed for everything that is wrong with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re living in a time where there\u2019s always somebody responsible for your failures, and I don\u2019t like this,\u201d Gilliam said of the #MeToo movement in a Saturday interview with\u00a0The Independent. \u201cI want people to take responsibility and not just constantly point a finger at somebody else, saying, \u2018You\u2019ve ruined my life.’\u201d<\/p>\n
The director went on to suggest that Harvey Weinstein\u2019s accusers were to blame for the \u201cchoices\u201d they made.<\/p>\n

We all make choices, and I could tell you who did make the choice and who didn\u2019t. I hate Harvey. I had to work with him and I know the abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI can tell you about a very well-known actress coming up to me and saying, \u2018What do I have to do to get in your film, Terry?\u2019 I don\u2019t understand why people behave as if this hasn\u2019t been going on as long as there\u2019ve been powerful people. I understand that men have had more power longer, but I\u2019m tired, as a white male, of being blamed for everything that is wrong with the world. I\u2019m now referring to myself as a melanin-light male. I can\u2019t stand the simplistic, tribalistic behaviour that we\u2019re going through at the moment,\u201d he told The Independent, referring to his older comments.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m talking about being a man accused of all the wrong in the world because I\u2019m white-skinned. So I better not be a man. I better not be white. OK, since I don\u2019t find men sexually attractive, I\u2019ve got to be a lesbian. What else can I be? I like girls. These are just logical steps.\u201d<\/p>\n Gilliam\u2019s latest film, \u201cThe Man Who Killed Don Quixote,\u201d will roll out in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin and other top markets starting April 19.
