Vanderbilt Blair School of Music will host Aubrey Bergauer, founding executive director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music\u2019s new Center for Innovative Leadership, for a guest lecture Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020.<\/p>\n

The free talk, \u201cA Sense of Belonging: The Future of the American Orchestra,\u201d will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Steve & Judy Turner Recital Hall, 2400 Blakemore Ave., Nashville, TN 37212.<\/p>\n

In recent decades, classical music has struggled to sustain new audiences. But during Bergauer\u2019s five-year tenure as executive director of the California Symphony in Walnut Creek, the organization doubled its audience and nearly quadrupled its donor base while delivering surplus budgets to better fund the art and the mission.<\/p>\n

In her Vanderbilt talk, Bergauer will share the three pillars of the California Symphony\u2019s success: listening to user experience research, designing for customer loyalty and focusing on diversity.<\/p>\n

The event is co-sponsored by the Vanderbilt\u2019s Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology and the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise and Public Policy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
