March is a big month for all things culinary and cultural in Hong Kong. There\u2019s heaps of things to do for foodies and art lovers with art month in full swing, as well as Taste of Hong Kong. The Irish community will also be celebrating St Patrick\u2019s Day with lots of fun events in the lead-up and don\u2019t miss the final Freespace Happening event for the season.<\/p>\n

What: Hong Kong and Macau Irish Festival<\/h2>\n

The Hong Kong and Macau Irish Festival is a collaborative effort led by the Consulate General of Ireland and the Emerald Fund with the support of the Irish groups in Hong Kong and Macau. In the lead-up to Ireland\u2019s national holiday on 17 March, the month is dedicated to promote Irish culture, community and commerce and will showcase Irish animation, craft, music, dance, art, sport, literature and Irish hospitality. Highlights include a festival of crafts from 2-11 March, a Flvours of Ireland night on 8 March and the Hong Kong St Patrick\u2019s Day Parade on 11 March. A parade will also be held in Macau on 17 March.<\/p>\n

What: St David\u2019s Society of Hong Kong Annual Ball<\/h2>\n

This black-tie event is the annual ball of the St David\u2019s Society of Hong Kong, a group for members of Hong Kong\u2019s Welsh community. The ball is a fundraiser for charities Hope of the City and Valleys Kids, both of which support underprivileged families. The event features the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir and other great entertainment.<\/p>\n

What: Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival<\/h2>\n

The Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival (YRF) aims to encourage children to discover the joy of reading and the world of books by facilitating interactions between authors and young readers through workshops and meet-the-author sessions. A diverse range of local and international children\u2019s book writers and illustrators will take part. The festival\u2019s public events will take place on 10-11 March.<\/p>\n

Handmade Hong Kong\u2019s Discovery Bay Sunday Market is a DIY Indie Arts, Crafts and Small Traders\u2019 Fair. Hong Kong\u2019s finest makers and sellers will be offering arts, crafts and other special goods with about 140 different vendors taking part, attracting about 2000 visitors. Make a day trip to DB on the ferry with the markets located in the DB main plaza, just a short walk from the ferry pier. If you stay for dinner at one of Discovery Bay\u2019s D\u2019Deck<\/a> restaurants you will get a free ferry ride back to Central.<\/p>\n

Central Harbourfront is playing host again to Asia\u2019s premier restaurant festival. Visitors can see top chefs, such as London\u2019s Bubbledogs restaurant led by Sandia Chang and husband James Knapett, as well as Sydney\u2019s Black Star Pastry patisserie, led by the Christopher Th\u00e9. You can also sample dishes from some of Hong Kong\u2019s best restaurants, as well as enjoy wine tastings, live entertainment and pick up premium food and drink from artisan producers in the Gourmet Market.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s major performing arts festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival brings together leading local and international artists in all genres including opera, dance, theatre, multimedia and installation. \u201cFestival PLUS\u201d activities will include lectures, masterclasses, workshops, backstage visits, exhibitions and educational events.<\/p>\n

What: Asia Contemporary Art Show<\/a><\/h2>\n

The 11th edition of the event will showcase more than 2,500 unique works of art spread over more than 80 art living spaces. Browse and buy original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography from some of the world\u2019s most interesting and promising artists \u2013 from emerging and mid-career artists, to those who have already achieved recognition in private and public collections, and at auction. Visit two exciting sections, \u201cIntersections: China\u201d and \u201cArtist Dialogues.\u201d<\/p>\n

What: Paws by the Sea<\/h2>\n

Link\u2019s Stanley Plaza is celebrating pet pooches in March with a host of canine-inspired events. The Paw by the Sea 2017 exhibition will transform Stanley Plaza and Murray House nearby into art galleries to become the Hong Kong\u2019s first art exhibition designed for dogs. Emerging local artists have depicted five paintings from a dog\u2019s colour spectrum to create a visual experience for dogs and their owners. There will also be a number of other events to complement the exhibition, including a display of architecture designed for dogs, a car installation to create the experience of car travel for canines and talks on dog training and nutrition. There will also be a doggie carnival on 19 March and a pop-up cafe with dog latte art. Dog lovers are also invited to join a Guinness World Record<\/a> challenge for the longest line of photo cut-out boards.<\/p>\n

What: Art Central<\/h2>\n

Returning to the Central Harbourfront, Art Central will host 100 contemporary art galleries with a mix of museum quality artworks from more established names exhibited alongside cutting-edge works from emerging artists from around the globe. Now in its fourth edition, last year\u2019s fair welcomed over 32,000 international collectors, curators and art enthusiasts. The strong gallery line-up is complemented by a dynamic five-day programme that includes interactive installations, experimental film and performance, engaging panel discussions, as well as some of Hong Kong\u2019s hottest eateries, seeing Art Central become one of the fixtures on the calendar during Hong Kong Arts Month.<\/p>\n

What: Art Basel<\/h2>\n

The Hong Kong edition of the international Art Basel art fair showcases significant modern and contemporary works of art. Work from both established and emerging artists from 242 galleries and 34 countries will be exhibited. The Hong Kong edition acts as a hub for artists and galleries with half of the participating galleries coming from Asia and Asia-Pacific. It provides a portal to the region\u2019s artists, but also offers galleries from around the world a platform for bringing their highest quality work to Asia. During Art Basel, collaborations with local and international partners ensure a diverse range of arts programming, with hundreds of cultural events hosted across the city throughout the week.<\/p>\n
