{"id":141057,"date":"2019-07-11T16:27:22","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T13:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ww-vb.mine.nu\/w108\/canada-relaxes-rules-for-cryptocurrency-exchanges-despite-ongoing-quadrigacx-saga\/"},"modified":"2019-07-11T16:27:22","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T13:27:22","slug":"canada-relaxes-rules-for-cryptocurrency-exchanges-despite-ongoing-quadrigacx-saga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hameed.nwar.uk\/sa\/canada-relaxes-rules-for-cryptocurrency-exchanges-despite-ongoing-quadrigacx-saga\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada relaxes rules for cryptocurrency exchanges despite ongoing QuadrigaCX saga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2019\/07\/Untitled-design-67-796x417.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Reassurance for Canadians: Cryptocurrency exchanges across the nation will now only have to report transfers of more than CA$10,000 ($7,663).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It comes after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2019\/2019-07-10\/html\/sor-dors240-eng.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the Canadian government relaxed<\/a> some of its new anti-money laundering regulations following feedback from payment service providers and cryptocurrency exchanges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result of the changes, cryptocurrency platforms, both in and outside of Canada, now classify as money service businesses (MSBs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMSBs will now include domestic and foreign businesses that are \u201cdealing in virtual currency [\u2026], Canada\u2019s government said. \u201cAs required of all MSBs, persons and entities dealing in virtual currencies would need to fulfil all obligations, including implementing a full compliance program and registering with FINTRAC,\u201d the government said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in March, reports surfaced about Canada\u2019s tax agency <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/hardfork\/2019\/03\/07\/canadas-tax-agency-asks-cryptocurrency-investors-for-10-year-trading-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reportedly cracking down<\/a> on cryptocurrency investors in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agency was thought to have sent questionnaires probing investors about their bitcoin-related activity over the past 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canada has also been rocked by the (still ongoing)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/hardfork\/2019\/04\/09\/quadrigacx-saga-continues-as-cryptocurrency-exchange-moves-to-bankruptcy\/\">QuadrigaCX saga<\/a> in recent months. The cryptocurrency exchange that made headlines across the world after its founder and CEO Gerald Cotten passed away unexpectedly without giving anyone else access to the company\u2019s cryptocurrency wallets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese amendments serve to mitigate the money laundering and terrorist activity financing vulnerabilities of virtual currency in a way that is consistent with the existing legal framework, while not unduly hindering innovation.
