Paying for coffee with Bitcoin is a common trope<\/a> in the cryptocurrency industry, but what about beer? More specifically, what about buying shares of a beer company with Bitcoin?<\/p>\n The edgy Scotland-based brewery BrewDog announced yesterday<\/a> that it\u2019s extending its current round of crowdfunding \u2013 what it calls, \u201cEquity for Punks\u201d \u2013 until April 2020, and is accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in exchange for shares of its business.<\/p>\n If you want to become a cryptocurrency \u201cequity punk,\u201d you can buy shares in the brewery using Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Ethereum, Litecoin, OmiseGO, Qtum, Augur, Ripple, and 0x.<\/p>\n To mark the occasion, BrewDog has also concocted a one-off beer called Cryptonite; anyone that invests with cryptocurrency will get a case of six.<\/p>\n What\u2019s more, the brewery offers some other perks too, including preview nights at new bar openings, and invitations to the annual company meeting.<\/p>\n BrewDog has lived by the mantra of\u00a0 \u201csticking it to the man,\u201d and the company says it sees natural parallels with cryptocurrency. It\u2019s long been trying \u201cto challenge perceptions and revolutionize [the] industry,\u201d the announcement reads. \u201cThe developers, miners and users of cryptocurrency are exactly the same. Joining forces to link the old and new financial systems is a perfect fit.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, one blockchain meetup in Brazil has hosted events at a BrewDog bar<\/a>.<\/p>\n Its Equity for Punks scheme lets potential investors buy shares in the company from \u00a325 ($31), which, according to the latest news, can now be bought using digital coins. There are over 114,000 community shareholders, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n That said, investments (whether big or small) should not be taken lightly, the company warns investors that share value can go up, as well as down. Sure, accepting cryptocurrency as payment for anything might sound exciting.
