And although there seems to be a podcast for everyone, nearly all of the networks that host, develop, and promote shows are managed by men <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including popular shows like Gimlet, Crooked Media, and Earwolf. Almost <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/musicoomph.com\/podcast-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">half of podcast listeners are women<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yet just 22 percent of the shows they listen to are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edisonresearch.com\/women-podcast-listeners-closing-the-listening-gender-gap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hosted or co-hosted by women<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Podcasting has already shaped the way we consume media, and we can\u2019t let it become yet another boys club. This is why Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci, two actors and writers, along with their former agentPriyanka Mattoo, launched <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earios<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A podcast network run by women, dedicated to sharing content created by women, for everyone <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but \u201cno creeps allowed,\u201d as it states on its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1936438128\/earios-a-woman-run-podcast-network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kickstarter page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After raising <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1936438128\/earios-a-woman-run-podcast-network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$26,000 on Kickstarter last year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Earios launched its first <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">three shows this week<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/filling-the-void\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filling the Void<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which host Lesley Arfin dives into hobbies and passions and interviews guests on what makes them happy. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/foxy-browns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foxy<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Browns<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concerns beauty and wellness for women of color and immigrants, hosted by Priyanka Mattoo and writer Camilla Blackett. And <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/web-crawlers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Web Crawlers<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, hosted by social media personalities Melissa Stetten and Ali Segel, explores weird things on the internet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earios is available on Apple Podcasts and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/4TKFojL60DVUIOWMNxR4DO?si=IYEQSNzRTwm1S8VsfeSFNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and plans to launch more shows bi-weekly, including an interview with comedy icon and activist, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earios.net\/the-margaret-cho\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Margaret Cho<\/span><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although some podcasts are experimenting with paywalls and subscriptions, Earios has also partnered with Acast to run ads on the show.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, TNW hosted an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/answers.thenextweb.com\/s\/megan-morrone-X4MW1G\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Answers session with Megan Morrone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a tech journalist and host of the weekly Twit podcast. When asked what she thought of the state of diversity in the podcasting industry, she said: \u201cThere are so many great women-led podcasts and a whole lot of them have had some very inspiring successes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat said, podcasts do fall into the same gender traps as any other media and they have some new ones. A few years ago there were a lot of complaints about upspeak and vocal fry, which was just another way to criticize women\u2019s voices. I haven\u2019t heard much about that lately, which is a good sign.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But having women just hosting podcast shows isn\u2019t enough, women need to be represented in every aspect of producing a show <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from in front of the microphone to running the platform.
