Not in the Netherlands, not in Europe, and not globally. This makes it possible for criminals to stay out of the reach of the government and to enjoy those proceeds undisturbed. These illegal proceeds can also be used to finance the same or new <\/span><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-ffvnzhaxji6xm9qpo1zn4ccu563jiwym\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.thenextweb.com\/tnw\/entity\/crime\">criminal activities,\u201d reads the five page letter addressed to the government\u2019s chairman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d [\u2026] Criminals who use the financial system to disguise their criminal proceeds seriously compromise the integrity and security of the financial system. Money laundering is an immense and complex problem and it is therefore very important that combating money laundering in a joint and effective way,\u201d it continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ministers detailed a three pronged approach against money laundering, that should start with regulating\u00a0cryptocurrency wallet providers and exchanges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also argue the case for tightening the regulation of cryptocurrency services and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) in a bid to adhere to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards, and the need to invest in projects aimed at counteracting criminal funds and cryptocurrencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the ministers want to ban cash payments of over \u20ac3,000 and have also called for the \u20ac500 bank note to be withdrawn from circulation.<\/p>\n<p>The call for tighter controls comes a few weeks after the FAFT released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fatf-gafi.org\/publications\/fatfrecommendations\/documents\/guidance-rba-virtual-assets.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">its recommendations<\/a> on regulating cryptocurrencies across its 37 member countries.<\/p>\n<p>In its recommendations, FAFT said that virtual asset service providers, including cryptocurrency exchanges, should pass information about their customers to one another when transferring funds between firms.<\/p>\n<p>According to the new guidance, each transfer should include the sender\u2019s name, account number, physical address or identity number, as well as the recipient\u2019s name, and their account number.<\/p>\n<p>These requirements are common in mainstream finance, but blockchain and cryptocurrency fans argue they pose a\u00a0threat to\u00a0user privacy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-post-pubDate\">\n                                    Published July 1, 2019 \u2014 10:03 UTC\n                                <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script data-src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;appId=378011798897423&amp;version=v2.6\" id=\"socialSrcFacebook\" type=\"text\/template\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/>[ad_2]<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/hardfork\/2019\/07\/01\/dutch-ministers-push-for-cryptocurrency-regulation-to-fight-money-laundering\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] Dutch ministers want to regulate cryptocurrencies as part of a wider effort to tackle money laundering in the country.
