Yesterday, Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) announced its ambitious plan to put up a space station in the next decade. The space agency\u2019s chief, K. Sivan, said the idea is to build the space station in the next seven years, and launch it by 2030.<\/p>\n

Sivan mentioned that India doesn\u2019t plan to carry out research experiments from the Internation Space Station (ISS), and wants to build its own facility. He added that it\u2019ll be a hub for microgravity research.<\/a><\/p>\n

The ISRO chief stressed upon the fact that the station\u2019s not going to be too big:<\/p>\n

Our station won\u2019t be very big, it\u2019ll have a mass of 15-20 tons, and be used for microgravity tests. It will have provision to host people for 15-20 days.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Engineers at the agency have also been\u00a0quietly working on a\u00a0space docking experiment\u00a0(Spadex) for three years that allows astronauts to transfer from one spacecraft to another. It can also aid the refueling and transfer of materials from the space station.<\/span><\/p>\n

ISRO\u2018s also planning to send an Indian<\/a> to space by 2022, as part of its mission Gaganyaan<\/em>. The central government has already allotted Rs 10,000 crore ($1.43 billion)\u00a0for this mission.\u00a0 The agency has already signed a\u00a0Memorandum of Understanding<\/span>\u00a0(MoU) with the Indian Air Force to select suitable candidates for the mission. The shortlisted candidates will receive basic training in India, and subsequently, move on to special space flying training abroad.<\/p>\n

f India successfully launches the space station, it\u2019ll be the second country in the world have a functioning space station in orbit. Plus, a successful crewed mission will see it in the company of the US, Russia, and China \u2013 the only other nations to send people to a space station.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
