President Trump reacted with anger to reports that text messages between two FBI officials in the days after his 2016 presidential victory may show \u201cirregularities\u201d in how the Russia investigation began, calling it evidence of a \u201ccoup.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump made the statement during a phone interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News Friday night<\/a> while responding to a question about the messages exchanged between FBI agent Peter Strzok and former Justice Department attorney Lisa Page.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were trying to infiltrate the administration,\u201d Trump told Sean Hannity. \u201cReally, it\u2019s a coup. It\u2019s spying. It\u2019s hard to believe in this country we would have had that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The text messages between the two officials, which were released by a Senate committee in 2018<\/a>, show they communicated about using briefings as a way to find people who they could \u201cdevelop for potential relationships,\u201d Fox News reported.<\/p>\n

Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson are hoping to investigate the texts further and they both sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr, asking for more information.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny improper FBI surveillance activities that were conducted before or after the 2016 election must be brought to light and properly addressed,\u201d they wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n

GOP Rep. Devin Nunes of California told Fox that the texts showed \u201cirregularities\u201d in how the Russia probe began.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is yet more evidence that the FBI\u2019s Trump-Russia investigation was filled with irregularities,\u201d he said. \u201cThe more we discover about the true origins of the investigation, the more abnormal it appears in every conceivable way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
