Ilhan Omar spoke to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on the phone this week and demanded to know why the social media platform hadn\u2019t deleted a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/04\/12\/trump-goes-after-ilhan-omar-with-9-11-attack-montage-video\/\">tweet from President Trump<\/a> that she said incited violence against her.<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter boss called Omar on Tuesday to talk about the presidential tweet, which shared a provocative video inter-splicing the Minnesota Democrat\u2019s comments about 9\/11 with footage of the Twin Towers in flames, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2019\/04\/25\/twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-called-rep-ilhan-omar-after-trumps-tweet-sparked-flood-death-threats\/\">according to The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Omar, who said she <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/04\/15\/ilhan-omar-says-death-threats-have-increased-since-trump-tweet\/\">experienced a surge in death threats<\/a> in the days after the April 12 tweet, pressed Dorsey to explain why the company hadn\u2019t deleted it, a source told the paper.<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey said it was because the tweet didn\u2019t violate Twitter rules. He also pointed out that the tweet and video had been viewed and shared beyond the site.<\/p>\n<p>A Twitter executive did tell Omar that Twitter needed to do a better job generally at removing hate and harassment from the site, the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Omar declined to comment to the paper Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the social media giant confirmed that the call had taken place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring their conversation, [Dorsey] emphasized that death threats, incitement to violence, and hateful conduct are not allowed on Twitter,\u201d a spokesperson said. \u201cWe\u2019ve significantly invested in technology to proactively surface this type of content and will continue to focus on reducing the burden on the individual being targeted. Our team has also consistently been in touch with Rep.
