Aaron Boone said he wasn\u2019t worried about the slow start with Betances\u2019 velocity.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot overly concerned [about] the other day other than it caught me off-guard a little bit,\u2019\u2019 the manager said before Betances threw a scoreless inning in which he fanned two in a 6-5 loss to the Tigers. \u201cI think he feels fine. It\u2019s just a matter of building arm strength and when he had to leave here to go home for the birth of his kid that slowed him a little bit. At this point I am not too concerned about it.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Betances is schedule to work again Sunday, likely against the Pirates at home. The Yankees are also sending a team to Lakeland to face the Tigers in a split-squad game.<\/p>\n\n
Don\u2019t look for Aaron Hicks until Tuesday at the earliest.<\/p>\n
The switch-hitting center fielder has missed more than a week with lower-back stiffness.<\/p>\n
Hicks worked on dry swings and played catch Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlmost certainly hold him out through the off-day,\u2019\u2019 Boone said of Monday, which is dark on the Yankees\u2019 schedule. \u201cAgain, just playing it real conservative. I don\u2019t think he is in a lot of pain or anything and I feel like it is minor. We want to make sure it gets out of there.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n
Tommy Kahnle was scheduled to work in relief Friday night against the Tigers and appears to be a different pitcher than a year ago when his velocity was down and arm problems surfaced.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis stuff has been really good. Last year looking back and watching the way his arm is working and the way he is throwing the ball. Last year he didn\u2019t have the velocity. It felt like he was looking for it and probably trying to do too much,\u2019\u2019 Boone said of the right-hander, who gave up a hit and an unearned run in one inning Friday.<\/p>\n
That led to an aggressive delivery which got him in trouble.<\/p>\n
\u201cGetting a little violent with your delivery and all of a sudden it messes with your command,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cHe took good care of his body and came in really good shape this year. He lost weight. You watch him, even in his bullpens, the command he has with his fastball. He is not reaching for it. It is coming out like it should. It\u2019s been exciting to see him so far.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n

Aaron Judge working with a virtual reality setup in which he wore a head piece that had goggle-like lenses and earphones to pipe in crowd noise. Judge faced Chris Sale and Justin Verlander and took swings with a short bat in the hallway outside the Yankees clubhouse.
