Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks festival\u2014the annual showcase of new works that first brought us Heidi Schreck’s Broadway-bound What the Constitution Means to Me <\/i><\/a>in 2017\u2014<\/i>will return this May with an all-new slate of plays. The upcoming season, which will continue through June, will feature three new works by Zhu Yi, Sarah Einspanier, and Daniel Glenn.<\/p>\n <\/span> Kicking things off will be Einspanier’s Lunch Bunch, <\/i>directed by Tara Ahmadinejad (May 17\u201328). A play about our struggle for meaning and belonging, the story follows seven public defenders on a frenzied quest for the perfect lunch.<\/p>\n Next up will be Yi’s You Never Touched the Dirt, <\/i>directed by Ken Rus Schmoll (June 3\u201313). A play about economic transformation\u2014the dreams it enables and those it crushes\u2014the new work tells the story of the Li’s, a family trying to enjoy their lakeside vacation but who find themselves surrounded by the gardeners, maids, and security guards who had once owned the land (not to mention the gods, ghosts, and unnamed spirits there for thousands of years before them). <\/p>\n Rounding out the new Summerworks season will be Glenn’s play King Philip’s Head is Still on That Spike Just Down the Road, <\/i>directed by Caitlin Ryan O’Connell (June 19\u201329). As the councilmen of Plymouth Plantation fight about what the good life is, the head of Wampanoag leader Metacom is displayed on a spike.
