{"id":116084,"date":"2019-03-04T21:01:21","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T18:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww-vb.mine.nu\/w108\/i-am-vanderbilt-antoinette-hicks-vanderbilt-news-2\/"},"modified":"2019-03-04T21:01:21","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T18:01:21","slug":"i-am-vanderbilt-antoinette-hicks-vanderbilt-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hameed.nwar.uk\/sa\/i-am-vanderbilt-antoinette-hicks-vanderbilt-news-2\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Vanderbilt: Antoinette Hicks | Vanderbilt News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Video by Zack Eagles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I Am Vanderbilt celebrates the people of Vanderbilt and the unique talents and contributions they bring to their work at the university each day.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the time <a href=\"https:\/\/campusdining.vanderbilt.edu\/location\/rand-dining-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rand Dining Center<\/a> opens for breakfast each weekday, Antoinette Hicks has already been on the job for a couple of hours.<\/p>\n<p>Hicks, the morning supervisor at Rand, comes in as early as 5 a.m. to meet delivery drivers, open the building and prepare the cash registers as <a href=\"https:\/\/campusdining.vanderbilt.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campus Dining<\/a> staff arrive for the day.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"795\" height=\"447\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SOweQ-FgBys?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Vanderbilt\u2019s dining halls\u2014ranked seventh-best in the country by <em>College Magazine<\/em>\u2014are the heartbeat of campus, and Rand is among the busiest. But, Hicks says, Campus Dining provides sustenance in more ways than one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think food is important\u2014that makes you happy\u2014but it\u2019s also about service,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s the most important role to me and to my team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like it when the service areas are clean. I like it when our attire is appropriate,\u201d she said. \u201cThere are a lot of things that make the food taste better\u2014it\u2019s how you\u2019re treated.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI like it when the service areas are clean. I like it when our attire is appropriate,\u201d she said. \u201cThere are a lot of things that make the food taste better\u2014it\u2019s how you\u2019re treated.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In her 42 years on campus, Hicks has been a cashier, supervisor and assistant manager in a variety of Campus Dining locations, including the Divinity School, the Commons Dining Center, Vanderbilt Catering and now Rand. She said she\u2019s seen Vanderbilt evolve into a more open and cohesive community during her time on campus. And she\u2019s watched Campus Dining expand in significant ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like that you can get something to eat on this campus 24\/7. They\u2019ve got markets and dining areas where you can sit and eat till late at night. There are caf\u00e9s in the libraries now,\u201d she said. \u201cI think that\u2019s really, really vital for students\u2014that they feel comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hicks believes in using a personal touch in her interactions with colleagues, students and faculty\u2014making sure they feel seen, heard and respected. That, and her commitment to service excellence, garnered her the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.vanderbilt.edu\/employee-appreciation\/commodore-award.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commodore Award<\/a>\u2014Vanderbilt\u2019s highest staff honor\u2014at the annual Service Award Ceremony in February.
