I have citizenship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muthana was born in New Jersey to Yemeni parents \u2014 but ran off to join ISIS in late 2014, urging jihadis to wage war back in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Now, she\u2019s begging to come back home, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/02\/20\/isis-brides-nj-birth-certificate-doesnt-prove-us-citizenship-experts\/\">insisting that she\u2019s an American citizen by birth<\/a> and should be let into the country with her 18-month-old son.<\/p>\n<p>The State Department, however, has denied her request. She and her lawyers said they\u2019ve been told that the US determined she didn\u2019t qualify for citizenship because her father was a Yemeni diplomat at the time of her birth.<\/p>\n<p>Children who are born in the US to diplomats aren\u2019t automatically granted citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>Late last month, Muthana sued the government in her fight to return to the US. A hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still trying to win the case and hopefully we will,\u201d Muthana told CBS. \u201cI know I am an American citizen and I know I have the right to come back. I have no other citizenship anywhere. Even my own home country I don\u2019t.
