{"id":115134,"date":"2019-03-04T06:05:43","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T03:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww-vb.mine.nu\/w108\/tornado-rips-through-alabama-leaving-14-dead-including-children\/"},"modified":"2019-03-04T06:05:43","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T03:05:43","slug":"tornado-rips-through-alabama-leaving-14-dead-including-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hameed.nwar.uk\/sa\/tornado-rips-through-alabama-leaving-14-dead-including-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Tornado rips through Alabama, leaving 14 dead, including children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thenypost.files.wordpress.com\/2019\/03\/tornado.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A massive tornado tore through eastern Alabama on Sunday, leaving at least 14 people dead \u2014 including children \u2014 and countless more missing amid the \u201ccatastrophic\u201d damage, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can say that at this time we have 14 confirmed fatalities,\u201d Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrbl.com\/news\/local-news\/breaking-at-least-10-people-dead-in-lee-county-following-tornado\/1824442170\">told WRBL<\/a> on Sunday evening as crews searched through the wreckage and debris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve still got people being pulled out of rubble,\u201d added Lee County Coroner Bill Harris, speaking to AL.com. \u201cWe\u2019re going to be here all night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tornado was one of at least a dozen twisters to touch down in the southeast on Sunday, with others wreaking havoc in Georgia and another area of Lee County. All of the fatalities were reported in Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>The first to rip through the Lee County region was said to be at least an EF3 in strength \u2014 and a half-mile wide, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>The second reportedly made landfall within the span of an hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts go out to those who lost their lives in the storms that hit Lee County today,\u201d Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said in a tweet. \u201cPraying for their families &amp; everyone whose homes or businesses were affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump also<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1102405884016250880?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\"> tweeted his condolences<\/a> to the \u201cgreat people of Alabama and surrounding areas\u201d on Sunday night \u2014 saying, \u201cPlease be careful and safe. Tornadoes and storms were truly violent and more could be coming.
