Before Faye Dunaway makes her return to Broadway in Tea at Five <\/i>this summer, she’ll first take the stage in Boston.<\/p>\n
The Oscar winner will take on the role of Katharine Hepburn in the monologue play at the Huntington Theatre, playing a pre-Broadway engagement June 21 through July 7. The John Tillinger-directed staging’s previously announced<\/a> New York bow will follow at a theatre to be announced.<\/p>\n Lombardo has been at work on crafting a new version of the piece, which originally premiered in 2002 with Kate Mulgrew. The new production, produced by Ben Feldman and Scott Beck, will streamline the two-act format into 90 minutes and focus primarily on Hepburn in 1983 as she recovers from her car accident injury and looks back on her famed romance with Spencer Tracy.<\/p>\n Tea at Five <\/i>will mark the Network <\/i><\/a>Oscar winner’s first Broadway performance since 1982’s The Curse of an Aching Heart. <\/i>Her additional stage credits include the national tour of Master Class <\/i><\/a>(playing another legendary performer: Maria Callas) and Broadway’s The Changeling, But For Whom Charlie, <\/i>and After the Fall <\/i>in repertory.<\/p>\n The Boston area has recently played host to two other shows slated to open on Broadway in the 2019\u20132020 season: the Alanis Morissette musical<\/a> Jagged Little Pill, <\/i>which made its world premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, and the musical adaptation<\/a> of Moulin Rouge!, <\/i>which reopened the Emerson Colonial Theatre. The Colonial will also be home to the world premiere<\/a> of the Broadway-aimed Magic Mike <\/i>musical. <\/i><\/p>\n The city’s Huntington Theatre, home to the namesake Huntington Theatre Company, is at the center of an expansive redevelopment project<\/a> that will involve a high-rise apartment complex directly east of the performance space.
