However, Apple then specifies that podcasters should avoid putting episode numbers in titles.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Adding episode numbers in titles. For example, show titles like &#8220;The Very Hungry Tourists Episode 01&#8221; for episode titles like &#8220;01 Broken Heirloom.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Podcasters have legitimate reasons to include a number in their episode titles. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-west-wing-weekly\/id1093364587?mt=2&amp;app=podcast\">The West Wing Weekly<\/a><\/em> for instance, currently has around 120 episodes and every one&#8217;s title begins with a number. Each edition examines one episode of <em>The West Wing<\/em> television drama and its titles begin with the season and the number of that episode.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is that a listener can quickly see whether, say, &#8220;6.09&#8221; \u2014season 6, episode 9 \u2014has been covered yet.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"article-img\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos5.appleinsider.com\/v9\/images\/1x1-white.jpg\" alt=\"Apple's Podcast app with (center, right) two very well-made shows that may be affected by these rules\" height=\"476\" class=\"lazy\" data-original=\"https:\/\/photos5.appleinsider.com\/gallery\/29926-48730-001-Apple-Podcast-app-l.jpg\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos5.appleinsider.com\/gallery\/29926-48730-001-Apple-Podcast-app-l.jpg\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"minor2 small gray\">Apple&#8217;s Podcast app with (center, right) two very well-made shows that may be affected by these rules<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Similarly, a podcast like the design series <em><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/99-invisible\/id394775318?mt=2&amp;app=podcast\">99% Invisible<\/a><\/em> \u2014which has a number in its show title \u2014will periodically run linked episodes with titles such as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/333-mini-stories-volume-5\/id394775318?i=1000426080956&amp;mt=2&amp;app=podcast\">Mini Stories: Volume 5<\/a><\/em>. The aim is to help people find other parts in those linked episodes and that is surely useful.<\/p>\n<p>That show does also include a number in its episode titles, as do many others, and the most recent edition is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/343-usonia-redux\/id394775318?i=1000430691628&amp;mt=2&amp;app=podcast\">343 Usonia Redux<\/a><\/em>. The email from Apple is not at all clear about whether a show like this will have to strip out the numbers forcing a re-index the content.
