Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theatre has unveiled its 2019 mainstage season, featuring world-premiere plays and a classic musical re-envisioned. <\/p>\n
Kicking off the 2019 programming in the spring will be Wade Dooley’s play The Prompter, <\/i>previously seen at Bay Street’s 2018 New Works Festival. The comedy tells the story of a young actor who is hired to be a prompter for a veteran actor on a Broadway show. Directed by Artistic Director Scott Schwartz<\/a>, the world premiere will run May 28\u2013June 16. <\/p>\n In the summer, Bay Street will present Safe Space <\/i>by Alan Fox, directed by three-time Tony-winning director Jack O’Brien<\/a>. Set at an elite university, the new work explores political correctness and the reaction to triggers on campus in America today. When a star African-American professor faces accusations of racism from a student, the head of the college must intervene, setting off an explosive chain of events. Performances will run June 25\u2013July 21. <\/p>\n Next up will be an all-new production of the Irving Berlin<\/a> musical Annie Get Your Gun, <\/i>directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George<\/i><\/a>, Bay Street’s Frost\/Nixon<\/i>). Lapine will bring a fresh, modern approach to the story, incorporating elements from librettist Dorothy Fields\u2019 original book to create “the strongest and most revolutionary Annie Oakley you\u2019ve ever seen,” according to Bay Street. <\/p>\n Annie Get Your Gun <\/i><\/a>features music and lyrics by Berlin and a book by Herbert and Dorothy Fields<\/a>. It was last seen on Broadway in 1999 starring Bernadette Peters<\/a> (who won the Tony Award for her performance as Annie Oakley) with direction by Graciela Daniele<\/a>. <\/p>\n Tickets for Bay Street’s season are available as part of a 2019 mainstage subscription.
