{"id":113186,"date":"2019-03-01T23:24:30","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T20:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww-vb.mine.nu\/w108\/i-am-vanderbilt-marilyn-holmes-vanderbilt-news\/"},"modified":"2019-03-01T23:24:30","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T20:24:30","slug":"i-am-vanderbilt-marilyn-holmes-vanderbilt-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hameed.nwar.uk\/sa\/i-am-vanderbilt-marilyn-holmes-vanderbilt-news\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Vanderbilt: Marilyn Holmes | Vanderbilt News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Video by Zack Eagles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I Am Vanderbilt celebrates the people of Vanderbilt and the unique talents and contributions they bring to their work at the university each day.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marilyn Holmes is a friendly and familiar face to the students, staff, faculty and Nashville community members who make a stop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/recreationandwellnesscenter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center<\/a> part of their daily routine.<\/p>\n<p>She greets many of them by name as she passes out samples of warm, hearty rice pudding on a cold day in late January. (John Russell\/Vanderbilt)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI love the passion of the folks that I see\u2014not only the students, but the faculty and staff and community members as well. There\u2019s a lot of energy here\u2014a lot of desire to learn, and to learn what\u2019s evidence-based,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Holmes has devoted her career to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/recreationandwellnesscenter\/nutrition\/nutrition.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nutrition education<\/a>, with more than 40 years of experience as a registered dietitian and in population health management. Her diverse professional background includes experience in hospitals, nursing homes, an educational institution, and in the public health sector at local, regional and state levels.<\/p>\n<p>She serves as a preceptor for the Vanderbilt Dietetic Internship and oversees 16 students annually during their rotation at the Rec. These students have already completed accredited nutrition coursework at the post-bachelor\u2019s and\/or master\u2019s level. During their Rec internship, they are completing their supervised practice. These students will be eligible to take the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics\u2019 registration exam to achieve registered dietitian\/nutritionist status upon successfully completing the internship.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the center partners with the School of Nursing for a class that showcases the Rec\u2019s teaching kitchen to demonstrate culinary and nutrition skills to Vanderbilt nursing and medical school students. \u201cWe talk about the patient interaction that surrounds the menu and help prepare them to be able to respond appropriately in the clinic when they\u2019re working with patients,\u201d Holmes explained.<\/p>\n<p>The teaching kitchen is also the venue for the monthly Vandy Cooks healthy cooking demonstrations, a partnership between the Rec Center and Health Plus.<\/p>\n<p>The Rec Center serves people of all ages, at all fitness levels, and at all walks of life.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt the Rec, facilities and programming center around supporting our Vanderbilt community in their physical activity and healthy eating.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWhile there are many lifestyle behaviors recommended for supporting our health, we know from the scientific literature that being physically active and eating healthfully are key to maintaining or attaining overall health,\u201d Holmes said. \u201cAt the Rec, facilities and programming center around supporting our Vanderbilt community in their physical activity and healthy eating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holmes said it\u2019s this commitment that\u2019s made her a proud member of the Vanderbilt community for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the energy generated by the Vanderbilt University community at all levels\u2014from new and creative thinking, the passion for excellence, and the drive to make the world a better place,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h3>More I AM VANDERBILT Stories<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/vanderbilt-video\/~3\/lWJCaciinS4\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] Video by Zack Eagles I Am Vanderbilt celebrates the people of Vanderbilt and the unique talents and contributions they bring to their work at the university each day.
