The company saw a rough December quarter in which iPhone sales <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/19\/01\/29\/apple-earns-843b-in-revenue-as-iphone-earnings-declined-15-percent-in-2018-holiday-quarter\">fell 15 percent<\/a> year-over-year, and most analysts don&#8217;t expect them to resume growth until this fall&#8217;s models ship.<\/p>\n<p>The executive didn&#8217;t elaborate on what future products he meant, but Apple is known to be working on an <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/19\/02\/11\/apple-names-first-head-of-marketing-for-augmented-reality\">augmented reality headset<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/19\/02\/27\/apple-confirms-layoff-of-190-people-from-self-driving-car-project\">self-driving car technology<\/a>. Both are potential gambles, given intense competition in the autonomous car space, and the absence of any affordable, mainstream AR headsets. Products like the <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/18\/08\/08\/magic-leap-one-mixed-reality-glasses-launch-in-six-us-cities\">Magic Leap One<\/a> and Microsoft&#8217;s HoloLens have so far targeted niche audiences like businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Apple has meanwhile been criticized as failing to innovate the same way it did under co-founder Steve Jobs. The success of the Apple Watch has been offset by <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/19\/02\/19\/homepod-sales-up-in-fourth-quarter-amazon-and-google-extending-lead\">lackluster HomePod numbers<\/a>, and even the Watch is limited by iPhone ownership.<\/p>\n<p>During today&#8217;s meeting Cook separately addressed a <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/19\/03\/01\/apples-shareholders-skirmish-over-idealogical-differences\">defeated shareholder measure<\/a> calling for &#8220;ideological diversity&#8221; in the board of directors.
