Pickering Graduate Fellowship to prepare for a career<br \/>\nin the U.S. Foreign Service. Fox is the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wvu.edu\/\">West Virginia University<\/a> alumna to win a<br \/>\nPickering Fellowship in at least a decade.<\/p>\n<p>Fox graduated from WVU in 2013<br \/>\nwith two bachelor\u2019s degrees in <a href=\"https:\/\/politicalscience.wvu.edu\/\">political science<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/internationalstudies.wvu.edu\/\">international<br \/>\nstudies<\/a>, with minors in <a href=\"https:\/\/english.wvu.edu\/\">English<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/philosophy.wvu.edu\/\">philosophy<\/a>.<br \/>\nDuring her time at the University, she interned at the U.S. Consulate General<br \/>\nAmsterdam and the West Virginia House of Delegates and represented WVU as a<br \/>\ndelegate to The European International Model United Nations Conference in The<br \/>\nHague. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy time at WVU, and particularly<br \/>\nwithin the <a href=\"https:\/\/eberly.wvu.edu\/\">Eberly<br \/>\nCollege of Arts and Sciences<\/a>, has been an invaluable resource in the<br \/>\npath that led me to the Pickering Fellowship,\u201d Fox said. \u201cMy professors,<br \/>\nadvisors, and the overall Mountaineer community helped prepare me for my<br \/>\ncommitment to public service and I would not have been able to achieve my goals<br \/>\nwithout them.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Fox plans to attend a public<br \/>\npolicy program with an emphasis in technology policy in Fall 2019. She is<br \/>\ncurrently applying to graduate schools. <\/p>\n<p>A native of Beckley, Fox currently<br \/>\nlives in Washington, D.C. where she works as a digital media coordinator at the<br \/>\nBrookings Institution and serves on the associate board of City Kids Wilderness<br \/>\nProject. Prior to Brookings, she served as press assistant to Sen. John D. Rockefeller<br \/>\nIV (D-W.Va.), and communications, and digital content coordinator at the Center<br \/>\nfor International Private Enterprise. <\/p>\n<p>The Pickering Fellowship, funded<br \/>\nby the U.S. Department of State and managed by the Ralph J. Bunche<br \/>\nInternational Affairs Center at Howard University, will provide Fox with<br \/>\nextensive professional development opportunities, including internships,<br \/>\nmentors, and skills training. As part of the Pickering Program, Fox will have<br \/>\nan internship based in Washington, D.C. working with the U.S. Department of<br \/>\nState in summer 2020. In the summer of 2021, the U.S. Department of State will<br \/>\nsend her overseas to work and to gain hands-on experience with U.S. foreign<br \/>\npolicy and the work of the Foreign Service. Upon graduation, Fox will become a<br \/>\nU.S. Foreign Service Officer, embarking on one of the most challenging and<br \/>\nrewarding careers of service to her country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are truly thrilled and excited<br \/>\nthat Ashley will be joining the Pickering Fellowship Program. She demonstrated<br \/>\noutstanding academic achievement, leadership and commitment to service during<br \/>\nher time at West Virginia University,\u201d Pickering Fellowship Program Director,<br \/>\nLily Lopez-McGee said. \u201cThese experiences bode well for her success through<br \/>\ngraduate school and in the Foreign Service as well.
