An airline pays compensation for a dog

[ad_1]

Cairo – Gololy

The head of the Danish Air Transport Authority has revealed that a Danish regional airline may pay compensation to a dog, after his short trip in Italy was canceled.

According to Deutsche Presse Agentur, a flight had been booked in the early morning for a dog named "Jack" from Palermo, Sicily to Lampedusa Island on January 14th.

The flight was canceled for technical reasons and the dog owners filed for compensation.

The dog owners had already received 250 euros ($ 273) each – the compensation is nearly 10 times the ticket price – the amount allowed under European rules for distances less than 1,500 km.

Now they charge the same amount for a dog whose original ticket costs 27 euros, and the European Union law governing compensation for passengers whose flights are canceled or postponed does not specify whether only humans are entitled to compensation.

Gasper Rongholm, chief executive of the Danish Air Transport Agency, said: It is just as crazy as it sounds … but the story is true, describing the European Union rules as highly controversial.

Rongholm added that he received advice to pay compensation to the dog, and said: But the dog is property, and property compensation cannot be claimed, the airline has not rejected the request but is currently seeking a solution.

Montserrat Barega, president of the European Regions Aviation Association, said in a tweet: If Jack gets compensation, he will become the first dog to receive compensation under European Union rules, and this is yet another testament to the desire of some to harm airlines.
