My Top 5 Valentine’s Tips..

There was a time when Valentine's Day was about romance…and LOVE… Remember?!!

At school, we would write little notes to our Valentine's, and later on in high school roses for your special one was introduced (does that give away how old I am?? :P)

Never, back then, was it about the commerce it is today. Or, at least I don't remember it being..(selective memory perhaps?)

Therefore, this Valentine's Day, I propose we go back to "the roots". Make it about LOVE again.

About Romance. About being together. Right here, in the now. And try not to fall for the crazy commerce all around us… There is no need to send your Valentine 100 roses to show her your love. There is no need to spend thousands of dollars on a set meal in a fancy restaurant with impersonal service. Instead, there are SO many ways to tell that special someone that they are special to you – without spending tons of money, buying things that we don't really need anyway…

Here are my top 5 ways of showing your loved one that you love them without breaking the bank (or ruining our earth) in the process:

    1. Light a few candles (we like scented ones) and cook a homemade meal: Nothing says "I love you" like a homecooked meal..
Plus, service in restaurants are normally terrible on Valentine's Day anyway, so you're not missing out on anything. Except a hefty bill maybe. Win win we say.
    2. DO something together: Whether it is going for stroll hand in hand, exploring a new part of the city together, or just gazing at the stars, BEING together is what matters. Or, on the phone, if you are apart. Sometimes you just can't help it. Schedules collide.
    3. Pack a picnic: Whether during the day or at night, nothing is as romantic as a picnic in nature! Why not surprise your loved one with a packed basket either during their lunch break or after work? Go sit in a park or head out to the beach if you can.
The thought and the preparation you've gone through is sure to tug at their heartstrings.. Not to mention, spending time in nature always feels good!
    4. Do something for someone else: Nothing feels as good as doing something for someone else, and if you are doing it with the person you love, the much better! Why not go visit (or call, video calls are the best) an older relative or someone you know, especially those who don't have their partner in life anymore. I can assure it will make their day. Or why not invite some of your single friends for dinner at home? Being together with loved ones does not always mean ONLY your significant other..
    5. If you need to give your loved one a present, first choice should ALWAYS be to give them an experience! Experiences are SO much better than just "stuff" as you will always keep the memories (and the photos) and it will be something you can return to for years to come.. Now, what will it be? Bungy jumping, a scuba dive or a trip somwhere? The possibilities are endless (and vary depending on how deep your pockets are..). But why not head out to Lantau Island for a trip to search for the endangered pink dolphin? We hear they have been recovering and increasing in numbers lately!

One more point I'd really like to stress here is that love shouldn't be something that we celebrate and focus on for ONE day of the year! I personally prefer to celebrate love in my everyday. It could be to take over a chore from your loved one, let them sleep in when they are tired, make breakfast in bed when they wake up, take out the trash, or cook them a meal when they are tired from work.

Should your Valentine still require a gift, may we suggest some handmade chocolate from a village in Vietnam, enabling employment for a whole community; a gorgeous, handmade and one of a kind 100% silk scarf (we only have 6 totally unique ones in one colour each) to wrap up in and look gorgeous in as well as keep warm; if you're into scents, have a look at our scent burner set with a handcrafted burner from Thailand and natural, hand poured scented 100% scented wax melts from New Zealand. Or why not a set of super soft bamboo bed sheets – giving your loved one the gift of good sleep for years to come..!

As a gift, from us to you, we are offering you 10% off your whole order. Valid from now until midnight on Valentine's Day (HK time).
