The last time anyone saw this Hawaiian flower alive was in 2009 ?That is, until a drone was dispatched by the National Tropical Botanical Garden to scope out a biodiverse area of Kalalau Valley, and it spotted the plant on a cliff face. “Drones are unlocking a treasure trove of unexplored cliff habitat, and while this may be the first discovery of its kind, I am sure it won’t be the last,” said one drone specialist for the NTBG.
