  2. Dave, I am seriously considering doing the 300$ co-host tier. However, I would prefer doing a gymnastics judging/recap type of thing. I don't know if that's something that is allowed or you would be interested in.
If so, what are some of the competitions you might like to examine?

  3. So sad for Eunsoo, Korea’s expecting another Yu Na, but it’s another epoch, she’s nowhere near Zagitova… she CAN do the jumps, but only Eteri’s students can do both the jumps and transitions… you may like it or hate it, but we have to admit that only Eteri and Hamada can show the right product

  4. Before people started talking about Evgenia attempting the 4S, and before all the shows, I was a bit nervous that she wouldn't have time between now and next season to train it, get her programs ready, improve her skating skills and her spins.
I'm probably not the only person who is somewhat relieved that with recent developments she will have more time to refine everything ?

Also, as far-fetched as the 4A seems, you never know when it comes to Yuzuru- he never ceases to amaze me!

On another note, I'm excited to see what Shcherbakova, Trusova, Zagitova and Kostornaia do as well as Kihira. Though these skaters aren't my personal favourites, I respect how each of them are pushing the sport forward in their own way, and can see why people love them for their own reasons. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  5. I viewed the Hanyu 4Lz in Kobe and it was pretty good: good position, good takeoff , not so good landing position, but overall much better that i remember his 4lz! It was actually quite beautiful see all the skaters congratulating Hanyu afterwards, and the Plushenko hug, everybody was happy for his achivement after such dificulty season!
Plushenko was genuinely happy for Hanyu, also Hanyu have one of the strongest minds in sports, when he chase something he is rutless and he is chasing the first spot again!

  6. Honest opinion here (if you’re not up for it, don’t read it):

You obviously don’t get Hanyu at all. With non-English speaking skaters, I try to read translations of their interviews. Imo your impression of him is completely off the mark – he’s crazy intelligent, realistic, logical and determined af. I’ve read his japanese interviews and boy was I surprised at how different he actually is. Based on his track record, if he says he going to do something, he’s going to make it possible sooner or later – he’ll make sure it happens. He won Olys gold at 19, that’s crazy young for a male skater – and I got to admit I was betting on Patrick at that time. Plushenko mentioned he’s seen the 4A in his interview in the Olympic channel and Hanyu is damn serious about it. It may seem far-fetched, but to those who can study his career in an objective manner will know that he doesn’t joke around when he declares a goal, and he’s got the tech skills to do it. Just like Olys 2018, many people underestimated him, including you, and as usual he proved you wrong.

About the 4Lz, the reason why Hanyu fans are so ecstatic about it is because Orser said that Hanyu will never jump it again. So it was a happy event for them, nothing more nothing less.
If you’re going to nitpick on his landing, honestly it’s his first 4Lz in 1.5 years after injury, at the end of an ice show, in a small rink, under spotlights and he’s wearing jeans. Just take it easy you know?

If you can give encouragement to Nathan who – honest opinion – reliable jumper but boring af everywhere else, why not do the same for everyone?

  7. To be honest I think Hanyu still stay in this game not because he has something to prove, is because he still has unfinished dream to pursuit, that’s why he wants to do 4A, that’s why he did that hard combination jump last season but didn’t care about how much points he gets. I hope all his hard work will pay off cuz this guy truly deserve it.

  8. Diana Davis was not that bad of a single skater as far as I remember. She has had some good competitions and ok jumps before she switched to Ice Dancing. I was surprised that she didn't switch to Pairs. It will be interesting to see how she will develop as an Ice Dancer during her second junior season. Russia has currently many new Junior Ice Dance teams, it will be tough to rise to the top.

  9. During the finale on Saturday where Evgenia made her first 4S attempt (on Sunday was the second one) and Yuzuru jumped his 4F, Alina Zagitova jumped six 2As in a row. Seems like everyone was trying to upstage each other lol

  10. Also Eteri's daughter is partially deaf which makes ice dance more difficult for her but her accomplishments that much more impressive. If Igor can really make something out of her I think it will be amazing for him and the Russian Federation

  11. Lol. If I'm the Tracey that Ashley's La La Land program should've been for, sadly, it disappointed this LLL superfan as well. It should've been magical, but it had the same issue I've had with all the LLL programs so far, too many edits and no theme or flow! Looks like the Marin LLL is also going to be an over busy medley. (*sigh*). The only version I loved was Misha Ge's non-competitive version he posted online. That's what an LLL program should look like! (Sorry, but you opened this can of worms, Dave!)

  12. Hello. First of all, English is not my native language, so I apologize for any possible mistakes. But hope it's clear what I want to say. This is going to be about Yuzuru and his 4A and it’s going to be long.

Seems like you guys don't understand at all (or don't want to understand?) Yuzuru's personality. Maybe you were blinded by his extra sparkly costumes and pretty/cute face. But as a competitor, he is ruthless. I really recommend you to read/watch some of his Japanese interviews instead. There are many great translations available everywhere. Not about his Pooh, on which american media seems to focus on. And no drama, no gossip, just really fascinating insight into his genius mind.

The motivation, stubbornness and competitiveness he has is very rare. Not just in figure skating, but in sports overall. And he has his own ideals which he follows 200% even if that means taking the hardest route. And this guy hates losing. Then there is his hard work ethic. Brian called it maniac and ascetic.

If Yuzuru wants something he will get it, period. Even if injured or seriously disadvantaged (asthma), he still fights like a lion. He was injured almost every single season of his senior career, but he always recovered and in addition upped his TES ante.

He has claerly stated many times, that 4A was his dream. He is not the type to use PR to boost himself. Last time he mentioned 4A was not even a week ago in the P&G talkshow in Japan… he said that right before FAOI he sprained his left ankle (fortunately nothing serious), because he overtrained 4A :))) So he kind of apologized that his 4Lz is not in the top form now because it was great in practice but then he had to rest 10 days right before he left for FAOI…

Look, nobody knows what happens in the future but we can be quite sure he has already landed a clean one or was pretty close to it. He wouldn’t mention it unless he was absolutely sure it’s possible, especially after all his injuries. Baring any catastrophic injuries (meaning more than "just" his right ankle), nothing will stop him. Axel is his jump and he wants it badly. And not just to land it , but to land it with high GOE. Very probably he waits until it’s ready quality-wise. Brian also seems optimistic about it.
After all, that is his main reason why he has stayed after the Olympics.

    P.S.1:
After his injury in 2017, you just doubted so much his chance at the Olympics.

Then after the Olympics, you doubted he will ever do 4Lz again.

Some people douted he will get his 4Lo back after Rostelecom 2018.
People (including me) were pretty sure he will never try 4F.

Now people are doubting his wish to land 4A. 🙂

    P.S.2:
His own words: “I want to get 4Lz back first. After that I will attempt 4F and then 4A. “ https://twitter.com/jobs_chura/status/1110563783787704320

  13. Talking about the quad lutz and pushing jump content I think its worth pointing out that Hanyu's 4T+3A from last season gave up a lot of points because of the sequence scoring rules. I agree with both of you that Hanyu needs to push his technical content. But I also think he doesn't need to do as much as people might think, he just needs to make sure he doesn't give away points by doing combinations like that and have a savvy jump layout. I think that was a real disadvantage for him last season and I hope he reconsiders that strategy this season.

  14. I think Hanyu already reached his max and his achievements were great and hard for others to match (2 Olympic gold medals). Nathen might have a chance to be the next magnet should he change his hair style (the curly bump on his head looks floppy, NOT artsy), and his baggy costumes. Yes, he needs to choose a great piece of music and deliver A show.
