TL;DR: I’ve yanked one of those out by accident when I was in college.
The finals week that semester was insane and I woke up late for a group project but still had a chance to get there on time. Swung in to get $5 in gas, called a classmate who was in our project to let them know I was on my way and cover what I needed to verbally before I got there.
I’m sitting in my car totally distracted and sleep deprived, pull off and hear a big pop and bang. I was embarrassed AF, dudes everywhere laughing at that gas station. I nod and understood I deserved the humiliation so don’t forget this lesson Grabbed my insurance and headed into the store to explain what I had done and was going to use my insurance to repair whatever I did.
The manager was in shock at first, went out to inspect the damage and chilled way out and laughed once he saw it was just the hose. The dude thought I had ran over an entire gas pump from what I told him… a real confidence boost to me going into a COMMUNICATIONS class group presentation…
He picked up the hose and nozzle, looked and over and popped it back on. Like it never happened. Turns to me and says, “yeah this happens alot, thanks for being the first one to say something. Usually people will just drop them where they fall and someone will run them over and we’ll be down a pump. Also, you’re the first person in a suit and tie to do this, usually it’s a dimwitted gold digger or drunk redneck.”
is there a longer version that shows her leaving it? it looks like she might just be reaching down to pick up both ends at once.

I can’t believe how many of these get posted here. I pumped my gas this morning thinking, what can you possibly be doing that distracts you so much that you drive off with the pump?
Oregon and New Jersey make a little more sense now.

In all my years driving I have never once gotten in my car and realized the pump was still in. Not only has that situation never occured but I always check my mirror on the gas tank side before taking off, and for no logical reason I ALSO check the side that doesn’t have a gas tank and is on the opposite side I just filled up on? Then still drive off slowly.
I think the fear of ripping one of those off and being embarrassed are the driving factors behind my triple check system.

I love the fact people continue to walk and go about there Business like this is just a normal day , must see this happen a 100 times a day in the same neighborhood . I’m hoping for the day that cars can fuel up like airplanes in flight . Solving 2 problems at once / 1. having to stop 2. Idiots
This is one reason why a lot of gas stations will disable the locking tab on the pumps, to make it harder to start the pump and get back in your car and do this.
She’s gonna wish she would have retuned it back to the station. Now, they will track her down using security cams and send her a bill.
This happens way more often than it should. I used to work at a popular gas station convenience store in the northeast as a shift manager. At least once a week someone would drive off with a pump. Let me tell you, the paperwork for that was obnoxious. Even more so if we didn’t get insurance info from the perpetrator. Even MORE SO because it would usually happen in the middle of our 5-6 o’clock rush.
And we wonder why people leave children in car seats in hot cars. People need to pay fucking attention! No phone, no texting. Stay outside your car and watch the pump. Lock your car while fueling.
She should not be allowed to drive a cardboard box, never mind a fucking huge SUV.
Never help anyone in a situation like this. That level of stupid could be contagious

Not trying to sound racist, but foreigners really should take a driving course before being allowed to even apply for a license. There are some serious things a person of any age should know before getting behind the wheel. Let’s face it, common sense isn’t very common anymore
