Might be. Depends. A single layer could be deposited over a million years, or a fraction of a second, it depends what happened. Stratum taken from core samples pulled from the dinosaur-killer crater catalogue the 15 minutes after the impact over the course of dozens of meters. Whereas if nothing happens over thousands of years yeah very little will be put down. There’s middle ground too where you get a flood layer every century or so over the course of ten thousand years.
