Visakhapatnam, December 21 (IANS). The Indian women’s cricket team created history by winning by 8 wickets in the first T20 match played at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. This is the first time that the Indian women’s team has made a partnership of more than 50 runs for the second and third wickets in a T20 innings. On Sunday, the Sri Lankan team set India a target of just 122 runs to win, chasing which team India won the match in 14.4 overs. The Indian team lost the wicket of Shefali (9) at the score of 13. From here Smriti Mandhana put on a partnership of 54 runs in 41 balls with Jemimah Rodrigues for the second wicket. Smriti was out after scoring 25 runs with the help of 4 fours. With this, Smriti became the first Indian woman to score 4 thousand runs in T20 international cricket. After Mandhana returned to the pavilion, Jemimah Rodrigues put on an unbroken partnership of 55 runs in 39 balls with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for the third wicket, giving the team an easy win. Jemima scored 69 runs in 44 balls with the help of 10 fours, while the captain added 15 runs to the team’s tally. For the opposition team, Kavya Kavindi and Inoka Ranveera took 1 wicket each. Earlier, the Sri Lankan team, who came to bat after losing the toss, scored 121 runs and lost 6 wickets in the set overs. The team lost the wicket of captain Chamri Athapaththu (15) on the score of 18. From here, Vishmi Gunaratne put on a 31-run partnership with Hasini Perera for the second wicket. Hasini returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs, after which Gunaratne added 38 runs along with Harshita Madhavi.
