Hyderabad, December 21 (IANS). Former Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) announced a street agitation to protect the interests of the state and against the delay in irrigation projects. BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) chief KCR said a major agitation would be launched against the delay in the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project on the Krishna River. KCR made this announcement at a press conference after the joint meeting of the party chief executive and BRS MLAs and MLAs at Telangana Bhawan on Sunday. He accused the Congress and the central government of ignoring the interests of the state. KCR said, “We have given a lot of time. Now I have decided to intervene myself. There will be no pretense. We will fight to protect the interests of Telangana.” The BRS chief said the party would agitate in every village of Palamuru (Mahabubnagar), Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts and would also organize a big public meeting. He said that the benefits of the water of Krishna and Godavari rivers are at risk due to the incompetence of the Congress government. KCR alleged that the Congress did not start work on the project for the past two years and the BJP-led central government sent back the detailed project report soon after BRS was ousted from power. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scored a landslide victory in the local elections in Arunachal Pradesh, winning the majority in the district councils and gram panchayats. Voting for local elections in the state was held on December 15. The BJP also scored a decisive victory in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections by winning 14 out of 20 wards. However, the regional party People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) swept the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) by winning five out of eight wards, while the BJP won two and an independent candidate won the seat.
