Patna, October 31 (IANS). A special CBI court in Patna on Friday sentenced an employee of an insurance company to 18 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 in a bribery case. A statement issued by the CBI said that accused Abhijit Sarkar, Senior Assistant, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), Kishanganj branch, was convicted in the 2011 corruption case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on 27 September 2011 based on a written complaint. It was said in the complaint that the government demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant and took Rs 15,000 so that the insurance claim file of the vehicle involved in the accident could be cleared. After investigation in this case, CBI filed a charge sheet against the accused on April 31, 2012. In a separate case, a special CBI court in Delhi on Friday sentenced 13 culprits, including a retired IAS officer, to two to five years in jail in the multi-crore Cooperative Group Housing Society (CGHS) scam. In this case, the court sentenced 11 culprits, namely Karamveer Singh, Narendra Kumar, Maha Nan Sharma, Pankaj Madan, Ahwani Sharma, Ashutosh Pant, Sudarshan Tandon, Manoj Vats, Vijay Thakur, Vikas Madan and Poonam Awasthi to five years imprisonment and fine. Also two convicts, namely Gopal Dixit (retired IAS) and Narendra Dheer (90 years old) were sentenced to two years imprisonment and fine. The case pertains to irregularities and criminal conspiracy in the revival of a defunct society by using fake and fabricated documents of the RCS office. Later, on the basis of the revival order, land was allotted by DDA at concessional rates in Delhi in favor of the Society. The investigation also revealed that the accused, including government officials and private individuals, hatched a criminal conspiracy to fraudulently revive the society on the basis of forged documents and fraudulently obtained land allotment from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). –IANS PSK Share this story Tags
