Spanish star Iker Casillas, former goalkeeper of the Spanish royal team, Real Madrid, is preparing for a new job after recovering from his recent heart attack.

Casillas, the goalkeeper of the Portuguese Porto team, has decided to run for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation, which will be held in the coming months.

According to the Spanish radio "Cadena Ser", 38-year-old Casillas decided to run for the Spanish presidential elections next March, in the face of Luis Rubiales, the current president of the federation, who will run again for a new session.

Rubiales had called for the election date to be presented before the European Championships, which will begin on June 12 until July 12.

Spanish radio, indicated that Casillas informed the Supreme Sports Council of Spain of the decision to compete for the presidency of the Federation.

The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that the Real Madrid legend decided to meet with a number of his former teammates in Spain, including Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta, to find out their views on his candidacy for the upcoming elections.

Casillas is expected to receive tremendous support from the members of the General Assembly, due to his sweeping popularity in the country, in addition to the support of Javier Tepas, president of the Spanish League La Liga.

It is noteworthy that Casillas had suffered a heart attack on the first of last May during his training with the Porto team and was subsequently transferred to the hospital, where he underwent an urgent, successful operation, to treat a blockage of the arteries of the heart.
