The thing about Germans, they follow the effing rules.
People in Germany can actually drive, licenses aren’t handed out like candy like they are handed out in the States. In the US any half wit can get a license.
This would never haooen in the US. Too many impatient drivers that dont care about how thier driving impacts others

This is smart but would need to maintain roads and roadsides better than they currently do where I am.
The law has made the punishment for disobeying the rescue lane quite a bit harsher just at the beginning of this year. 1 month without license , 2 pts and 200+ Euros.
The actual problem is enforcement tho, no cop has time to punish it on the fly in cases and emergency vehicles usually don’t have dash cams and even if they did, a license plate isn’t proof enough. It’s the driver who gets fined and not whoever the is registered on so all you’d have to do provide a plausible alternative and you’re out.
Most Germans agree that our fines for stuff on the road are laughable. Good stuff like that is starting to go in a territory where it hurts. Not this 20€ bullshit it probably was before.
This is how it should be, not how it works.
In reality half of the drivers are doing it right, some don’t get why this is important and 2 assholes are trying to use the emergency lane for their selfs.
And no, this has nothing to do with the country the drivers are coming from. Most of the people who think the rules are not made for them are middleaged men (sorry guys, just my personal experience) in their expensive cars.
What if there are more than two lanes?
That would never work in the UK, that empty centre lane would be too tempting for a Clarkson inspired wanker or Karen to resist
I lived in Germany and took their drivers license test. It was a 40 hour weeks worth of classes followed by a grueling test which only allowed for two or three missed questions. They take driving very serious and punishments for traffic violations are steep.

As a Canadian, I can say driving in Germany is so much more efficient than anywhere I have ever driven. Everyone follows the rules – no one hangs out in the left hand lane, people know what they’re doing, speed limits are minimal but it doesn’t feel dangerous.
Had this happen to me on my last trip, wasn’t really sure what what going on but figured it was best to do as the locals do then when ambos came down the centre I fell in love with Germany and their rules even more

Yup. We are also taught to flash the warning lights when coming up to a slow down/jam on the highway, to let the people behind know they should be careful and prepare to step on the breaks.
I probably caused some mild confusion and raised eyebrows on the 405 during my first few weeks living in the States.
Not sure if the Waze app is used in the States, but both Waze and Flitsmeister will alert you of an emergency vehicle in your vicinity/direction, so you can be prepared to get out the way.
Oh, and it is legal to use Flitsmeister in a lot of countries here in EU. It alerts you to where the police are doing speed checks, have cameras, conduct roadblocks etc.
If Texas could do this I’d have more respect for my state but honestly people here will have a GIGANTIC FIRE TRUCK BLARING it’s horn right behind them and they’re like aghhhmfkaldj what do I doooo I’m just going to stay put maybe it’ll go away c:
In Italy we keep the right lane (emergency lane) free for emergency vehicles. What’s the point of occupy the emergency lane to create a middle lane free?

Why did all the cars move to the emergency lane? In Denmark the emergency vehicles uses the emergency lane in heavy traffic.
Im from Austria, same law at my place. You’re absolutely lucky to find a place where everybody behaves right. 99% of times, some morons just think they’re to cool for it and don’t line up or drive through the lane
We have the same laws in America… nobody does it, it’s so sad
