1987-88: Manchester United v Bury (League Cup – switched from Bury)
A better memory for Bury fans than what they have endured in recent months – here’s the full BBC Sportsnight highlights of their Littlewoods Cup tie against Manchester United from on this day in 1987. Bury were drawn at home but the tie was switched to Old Trafford (hence Bury’s name appearing first on the on-screen captions).

Wow, that sound perfect, I like it, I was playing slap smack rugby game of football karate chop.
Good to see this again. We played well that night and deserved a draw. But when United put Robson back into midfield the game changed. Great piece of skill from him to create the winning goal.
Was there a Sportsnight Special that night.
Same here, then rushed home to see it on sports night. 33,519 united crowd, all star Bury side including Noel Brotherston, Sammy Mac and Liam Robinson, not to mention Simon Farnworth in goal ex BWFC
I was at this game. Unfortunately one that can’t be played anymore.
