No why would anyone pay when you can get 95% of the content online for free?
Hi Ian. I bought and have kept every program from every City game I went to home & away for around 28 years from the mid-80; with only a few away ones missing that I couldn't get hold of at the time. I've even got single-sheet ones and some that had just a few pages from some early domestic cup rounds many years ago including any reserve game I went to.
Like you, everyone is in a folder in date order.
However, there had to come a time where I just had to stop getting them for the simply fact of room to store at home. So, one season I said I would stop buying them once we had won the league, which seemed like it wasn't too far away at the time I took that decision. Little did I know that at the start of the season I had made that decision we would go on to win the league in dramatic style.
Since then, I've just bought the odd program from, what I would class as for various reasons, 'key games'. But I wanted to post a comment mostly to say, DON'T THROW THEM AWAY! At the very least sell 'em to a City fan, as you suggested you might, or offer to donate them to the MCFC museum.

I cant afford too much because the Mexican salarys are terrible but it would be a huge life changing moment for me…
I never miss a match on the tv..wake up at 6am mexico time..

Several years ago i sent all my football programmes to a sports auction in Manchester and got £4000 for them. Be careful what you throw away.
My Dad went to the european cup winners cup final and he said because of the weather they were loads chucked on the floor.
I buy for the big games I go to now. Used to buy for every game but they are more for a bit of memorabilia from them big game's than reading them.
I still buy the home programme but I must admit it's poor quality full of advertising .
Used to buy them in the late 80s… until fanzines came along. For the fans by the fans
I have a coat that the program fits in the pocket. I get the program as part of my season ticket deal but I think it's going to die out in the end. I had to get the program for the first game that I ever went to at Maine Road so I will never ever get rid of that but the programs that I have are getting too many to keep so I'm going to have to get rid of them. I will only keep some that have sentimental value so my youngest son and grandchildren can read them when they gets older
I always buy a programme (and KOTK) like you Cheesey I have them in chronological order and have one for every game I've been to, not as impressive as 2,000, but at my last count (sad I know) it was around 1,000…It's part of a ritual/match day experience etc, I couldn't conceive not buying one, it just wouldn't feel 'right' somehow…Once I've had a quick flip through before the game I don't read it again and off it goes stored with the other ones… The content of the current programme is poor in comparison to the ones produced in the 70s/80s/90s which were IMO one of the best in England.
Ian for me personally I like to keep my match day programmes, cause unfortunately I can’t go to every game from Dublin for financial reason , but to me I love keeping them cause it reminds me that IV been at that game and I keep them for pride , but I can understand your situation where you have been to thousands of games , but again I love keeping them cause I only get to go to a handful of games every year
I gave up programs years ago, but what do collect is, ticket stubs. Cost me nowt! And have a few thousand now. Just as a reminder I was there.
hi ian I do not think the programme means as much to supporters today but when you and I went to main road as kids it was important to have the programme also since sky and t v money came into the game the big clubs don't need the income from programme but you know the smaller clubs and none league clubs need that income to stay solvent do you think that is still the same / thank you for a interesting blog
I still buy matchday programmes and will continue to do so. I believe it is an intrinsic part of the matchday experience and a great souvenir of matches you have attended.
i used to buy one ,but i started buying king of the kippax , but they always seemed good.is that the lad that wrote sergio off as spent ,a while back lol.[white t.shirt].what happened to the podcast ian.
We moved house last year and nearly all my memorabilia was ethnically cleansed, i cant say that i miss them but im still a bit rankled, ive not personally bought a programme for many years as now the info is up-to-date online and in the media all the time, during our first golden era we had to rely on the matchday programme for the line up. Of course the tokens were part of the collecting process, i used to go to the central league games for a team sheet with token, i think they were free with your tanner ,(not tenner) entrance fee, you could use the front page of an away programme as well so i think, for me at least that was the main reason for collecting them. The token sheet was in the first home game and we rushed home to affix them in after every game, i had to hide my sheet as my horrid sister would try to nick it and spoil my cup final dreams. I still remind her of this fact today. I think i miss the pink and a pint on the way home more than a programme.
