Rapidly wash and tear Romaine lettuce for a salad

My fast and straightforward salad prep utilizing Romaine lettuce!
Video taken by my 6-year-old. A really lifelike look into my life as nicely… hadn’t performed something to my hair (but), and my two-minute video will get interrupted by a knock on the door! 🙂 No marvel I have to be quick with lettuce! 😉

Setting it in your sink seems very very unsanitary, well it is.
Thanks for the video and I hope everyone there is doing great!
I always buy organic romaine and often find little green bugs in it, so end up cleaning it leaf by leaf. I'm afraid this method won't get the little critters…
You made my day
Adorbs! He did a great job! Thanks for the tips!
U didn't clean it good enough . I soaked mine leaves In Sea salt because my bunches were kinda dirty the. I rinsed each leaf (because im anal like that) in warm water and after I torn it into shreds an spinned them dry I STILL FOUND TWO TINY BUGS (gross) I know we all eat bugs but to see them grosses me out so now I'm all paranoid about lettuce 🙁
JUST what I needed to see without all the ads…spam…gazillion ideas…Thank You!
absolutely adorable sounding camera person. they did an awesome job 🙂
Your child is not going to be a surgeon.
Cute!
When I was in the Navy, I happened to be going through the serving line on my ship when I overheard an inspector talking to one of the cooks about salads. He told the cook to tear the salad, instead of cutting it with a metal knife, because the metal knife turns the lettuce brown. I've followed that advice since (that was in the 80's), and I see that's your method, too. I recently bought a plastic salad knife and now I have 'strips' of romaine in my salads. I think it looks really cool LOL
Thank you for the tips! I bought romain hearts instead of pre shredded romain lettuce for work and my manager made look up how to prep it since I bought the wrong ones lol, thanks again.
I am just starting to eat more salads and bought a head of romaine lettuce today. Decided I'd better find out about preparing it and you and your daughter's video was just what I needed to know – Thanks so much!! 🙂
Thanks for the video! And yes, your photographer is adorable.
Love the photographer.
@lionssong2525 Thank you! 🙂
@bg1060 You're welcome! 🙂
@bg1060 I think this method cleans well enough for lettuce that isn't super dirty. Garden-fresh lettuce that's been through a few rain storms would require more washing, for sure! 😉
This method does leave the lettuce slightly wet (instead of dry, like a good salad spinner would) but I think it's fine for use in a salad within ~24 hours or so. To keep the lettuce much longer, I would recommend doing what I show in the video and then spinning the salad. Romaine will keep a long time that way!
